HOPPER BUILD OVERVIEW

BUILD HOPPER

Build Basics will guide you in assembling your Hopper. For each of the steps in this build process, you will have access to instructions and animations of the Hopper drone components, that if followed carefully, will result in a successful build of your Hopper.

While the Hopper is robust compared to many other drones, please exercise caution when building your drone as some components are more susceptible to damage than others. With careful handling of parts, they will last for many more flight hours.

If you run into roadblocks during the build, please refer to the FAQ/Troubleshooting page (link) which has extra information around the most common issues. If you do not find the information that you need, you may email us for support at support@ftw-robotics.com.

Before you begin building Hopper, take some time to arrange your workspace and read these helpful tips.

  1. Give yourself enough space to work

  2. Make sure you have good lighting - it is much easier to work with the small screws

  3. The screws only need to be gently tightened - if you tighten them too tight you will strip them

  4. Read the directions for each step before you build - this will prevent and mistakes that require you to repeat some steps.

HAVE FUN!

Airfoil

A body (such as an airplane wing or propeller blade) designed to provide a desired reaction force when in motion relative to the surrounding air

Airframe

The Airframe is the main body of the drone that every other component attaches to

Anti-Clockwise [A]

Anti-Clockwise (or Counter Clockwise) [A] motion is one that proceeds in the opposite direction as a clock's hands

Battery

Energy source used to supply power to the drone

Clockwise [C]

Clockwise [C] motion is one that proceeds in the same direction as a clock's hands

Firmware

Firmware is permanent software programmed into a read-only memory

Gimbal

The mechanism that allows for different position of the camera on the drone

Micro-USB

a miniaturized version of the Universal Serial Bus interface which enables the direct charging of the drone's battery

Motor

A motor is powered by electricity that supplies motive power for moving parts

PCB

A Printed Circuit Board is a board design with a base board and copper traces to maintain connectivity between electronic components such as LED's, integrated circuits, and resistors for your devices

Propeller Twist

A differece in angle between the blade at its tip, and at the point where it meets the propller hub

Propellers

Mechanical device for propelling an aircraft or boat, consisting of a revolving shaft with two or more broad, angled blades attached to it
